Rural Research Help Starts Here

As a former Murray resident and native, I wanted to bring clinical trial opportunities to the people of Murray and the surrounding areas. Seeing friends, family and neighbors suffering with medical conditions that are easily treated in cities like Nashville or Atlanta, gave me the desire and determination to bring those same clinical trial options to Murray, KY. As a patient advocate, I feel all people as a whole, regardless of where you live or where born should receive access to any and all medications if they are needed by you to help treat or control your medical conditions. I also feel strongly that we as human beings should not be faulted due to a lack of Specialists in the areas where we currently live. As the local physicians who are diagnosing us with our condition, seeing us for most of our lives, and treating us should be able to have access to and experience with all medications that may be dispensed usually by specialists for those conditions.

When and if access to a specialist is not available, especially to those of us in rural areas, some treatments are automatically denied by insurance or not even considered as an option for you by the doctor treating you mainly due to those doctors not having experience with or access to medications. To me it just never felt right seeing patients travel to Nashville, or even farther to Atlanta just to receive the same treatment options being offered to everyone else just because they live in a bigger city or on the coasts and have accessibility to specialists that others don't.   

 

Some of the clinical trials we do are with cutting edge treatments for investigational medications that are doing studies to prove safety and efficacy and then done to show how much better they are than the current FDA treatments available. Some trials are for medications already FDA approved and already available on the market for an indication and they are going back to trials for a new indication. Then you have others clinical trials going for new devices like autoinjectors, but regardless of anything your safety in a clinical trial is everyone's top priority.

So, I, Ann Marie Edwards, in partnership with Jamie Weisman MD, who together have been completing clinical trials for over 16 years in clinical research in Atlanta, GA have opened Kentucky Advanced Medical Research LLC in Murray, KY.
